In the heart of Nigeria’s vibrant civil society, a self-sponsored initiative, Yoruba Aborigenes Progressive Initiative (YAPI) has been quietly but steadily working to contribute to the nation’s security and governance. Founded in 2013 and officially registered only in October 2023, YAPI stands for Justice, Equity, and Fairness.
Despite its clear support for the Nigerian government, the organization’s chairman, Prince Olushola Omomulerin, insists that the group was not created to serve any political agenda.
“We’ve been helping the government apprehend criminals. YAPI was not founded solely to support Tinubu,” Omomulerin explains, emphasizing that the organization’s primary focus has always been to improve security and contribute positively to the country.
With 7,500 members strong, YAPI has become a notable player in the Nigerian security landscape, yet the organization’s ties to the president are not as direct as some might think. “Tinubu is not even aware of our existence,” Omomulerin clarifies, underscoring the group’s independence from political circles.
However, when questioned about the high cost of goods and the public’s frustration amid rising prices, Omomulerin remains steadfast in his support of the president. “We’ve seen the progress of what he’s doing, and we support him. Nigeria is progressing,” he says confidently.
While acknowledging the challenges Nigerians face, he remains optimistic. “The prices are getting better. The issue with Nigerians is impatience. Trust the process, Rome was not built in a day.”
The chairman goes on to explain that YAPI’s mission is focused on tightening the country’s security and supporting efforts to apprehend criminals. His words reflect a deep commitment to improving the nation through grassroots action and active support for the government’s efforts.
According to Awonuga Olatunbosun, the spokesperson for YAPI, the organization’s formation was driven by a desire to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development. “We are going to train our youths in the areas of security, and by doing so, we are also helping the government,” Olatunbosun affirms, further solidifying the organization’s vision of building a more secure future.
Prince Olushola Omomulerin further emphasizes that the organization’s support for President Tinubu’s administration is unwavering, highlighting the president’s efforts to move the country forward. “Tinubu is doing well, and we support him. He deserves another term,” Omomulerin states resolutely.
“We are champions of a good government,” he adds. “Hence, we will support him as long as he continues to do what is right.”
In a time of economic and social challenges, YAPI stands as a beacon of hope, working tirelessly towards a more secure and prosperous Nigeria while backing the government’s efforts. Their commitment to national progress remains at the heart of their mission, and their influence continues to grow, both in security and political support.
