Tuesday April 22 was not just another wedding ceremony ticked off on Nigeria’s social calendar, it was a corporate merger dressed in traditional attire.

The wealthy families of Dr Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi and Bishop Emma Okonkwo of Ekulo Group were joined together as one when their children, shut down Okija in Anambra State for their traditional marriage ceremony.

Kene, one of the daughters of Obiejesi and Ugo, one of the sons of Okonkwo, both played hosts to dignitaries who flocked the sleepy town of Okija to rejoice with the newlyweds.

Despite the fact that it was a working day, several heavy weights in the political, business and social circles, took time off their busy schedules to attend the lavish ceremony.

That the wedding had all the trappings of wealth on display, would be simply putting it mildly. Nothing was left to chance. Being a man who appreciates and understands cultural enrichment, Obiejesi a big-time player in the oil and gas sector, ensured that some of the biggest highlights of the ceremony was the various cultural displays from different groups, put together to entertain guests.

The ceremony was child’s play compared to the ceremony he organised for his eldest daughter, Chinazo Isabelle in Lagos about eight years ago. This time, words aren’t enough to convey the sheer display of wealth on that day.

While comedian, Stanley Chibunna aka FunnyBone anchored the event which took place at the Acropolis Event Centre in Okija, Chinedu Okoli aka Flavour serenaded guests who could not get enough of his songs.

The traditional ceremony happened about eight months after the initial introduction ceremony which was equally a grand event that held at Obijiesi’s country home in Ihiala, Anambra State.

A few weeks before then, Ugo had proposed to Kene while on an intimate boat cruise in Lagos, accompanied by their close friends and family members.

Obiejesi who is also the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Nestoil is also the founder of the Obijackson Foundation, a private charity based in his home state through which he improves the socio-economic wellbeing of his community through better access to good quality education, empowerment, skill acquisition, infrastructural development and healthcare. He is also the organiser of the ‘Face of Okija’, an annual music and cultural festival targeted at youth empowerment and rejuvenation of the Igbo culture.
