BON AWARDS 2016: Organizers name Okey Bakassi, Mercy Aigbe as hosts, to honor Fidelis Duker, Sola Shobowale, Zebudaya is Special Recognition category

As the 2016 edition of Nollywood’s foremost reward platform, Best Of Nollywood, BON Awards billed to hold in Abia State, steams up, the planning team has unveiled veteran entertainer Okey Bakassi and rave of the moment actress, Mercy Aigbe Gentry, as the matching hosts for the December 10 event.
Speaking at a press briefing recently, the CEO of the Awards, Seun Oloketuyi said, “It is with all pleasure that we introduce to you the hosts of this year’s Best Of Nollywood Awards. We are proud to announce Okey Bakassi and Mercy Aigbe Gentry as the hosts of the Awards.”
Okey is one of Nigeria’s prolific comedians and actor who for over two decades has carved a niche for himself as a vintage entertainer, while Mercy Aigbe Gentry has over the years built her career as the darling of the new school Nollywood.
“We are also pleased to be honoring in the Special Recognition category veteran film maker, president and founder of the Abuja International Film Festival, Fidelis Duker, Chika Opala, a.k.a Chief Zebrudaya of the new masquerade fame and prolific actress, Sola Shobowale, for their time proven contributions to the growth of Nollywood.” Oloketuyi added.
Recipients of the Special Recognition category Awards in the past include former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Patience Ozokwo, Tade Ogidan and so on.

Nurse to face trial as court clears Naira Marley, Sam Larry, PrimeBoy Over Mohbad’s Death.

The Magistrate Court sitting in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos State, on Tuesday, acquitted popular musician, Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly called Naira Marley, in relation to the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad.

Channels TV reports that Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, who read and implemented the legal advice issued by the Directorate of Public Prosecution, Lagos, said that Naira Marley had no case to answer.

Alongside Naira Marley, the court reportedly freed music promoter, Samson Balogun, known as Sam Larry; Owodunni Ibrahim, also called Primeboy; and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde.

The DPP, however, said it shall be prosecuting the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of Mohbad’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq for the offence of reckless and negligent acts contrary to Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law, Ch C.17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The duo will be prosecuted at the magistrate court.

Rapper Odumodublvck hospitalised after surviving car crash

Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has been hospitalised after being involved in a car accident.

The rapper disclosed this in a post on X.com on Tuesday, sharing pictures of himself in the hospital and at the accident scene.

Odumodublvck, also known as Industry Machine, wrote, “Survived. The machine must arrive in one piece. It is a must. The machine is coming.”

His fans and well-wishers have taken to social media to wish him a speedy recovery.

Nigerian Art Icons Lemi Ghariokwu and Ini Dan to be Honored at Ojez Forum on Sunday

A celebration of artistic excellence is on the horizon as the February edition of the Ojez Forum pays tribute to two giants of Nigerian art: Lemi Ghariokwu and Otunba Akang Ini Dan. The event will be held this Sunday at Ojez Lounge, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

 

Lemi Ghariokwu, also known as Emmanuel Sunday, is a self-taught Nigerian visual artist celebrated for his distinctive and thought-provoking album cover designs. He is most recognized for his extensive collaboration with Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, creating the artwork for 26 of Kuti’s albums. Ghariokwu’s art is distinguished by its vibrant colors, meticulous detail, and socio-political messages, reflecting African identity, activism, and cultural pride. His prolific career includes designing over 2,000 album covers for artists around the globe, including iconic figures such as Bob Marley, Miriam Makeba, and Lucky Dube. His work has been showcased in exhibitions worldwide.

Otunba Akang Ini Dan is the Managing Director and CEO of Fodak Production. He is also the founder and chairman of the Sister Heart and Visual Foundation, organizations dedicated to developing artistic talent and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage. As Vice President (South West) of the Society for Nigerian Artists, Otunba Dan has been a champion for artists’ rights and a facilitator of platforms for artistic expression.

 

The Ojez Forum is a monthly event that highlights individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts in Nigeria.
