Edo Crisis: Shaibu Withdraws Suit Against Governor Obaseki

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon. Philip Shaibu, has directed his legal team to withdraw a suit levelled against his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki and others, in a move toward building a peace pact between the duo.

A statement signed, released and made available to newsmen by the Deputy Governor, recounted the role played in the intervention process by well-meaning Nigerians including Traditional and Religious leaders across the state, as his reasons for the withdrawal.

Society Reporters recalls that in the wake of the disturbing crisis, Comrade Philip Shaibu instituted a legal process, praying the court to halt any move instigated by the Governor and others toward impeaching him.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had issued a temporary order stopping the move by the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to impeach his Deputy, Phillip Shaibu, over what was seen by many as irreconcilable differences.

A development that infuriated the Governor, who described the action of his Deputy as not only betraying, but a coup, plotted to oust him as the Governor.

In what seems like a new twist on Tuesday, where the case was billed for hearing by the Federal High Court on a motion on notice filed with Suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023, by the appellant, a statement was, however, released on his intention to withdraw his case.

While thanking those key actors who stood firm on reuniting the duo, Comrade Shaibu also hailed the decision of the Governor, who agreed to take the path of peace.

The issue has in the past weeks generated tension at Denise Osadebe Avenue, the home to the Edo State Government, giving room for reactions from unsuspecting members of the public.
