HE gap of enmity between fashion entrepreneur, Funke Fowler and her estranged husband, Abiodun Kuku is getting wider by the day. As it is, the reconciliatory moves by their families may not be yielding any positive result.
The scenario exhibited by the two on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Elite Model Look 2014 held at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos showed they are yet to get over whatever differences that exists between them. They shunned each other at the event, an indication they are not even on talking terms.
Abiodun Kuku, son of Ogbeni Oja, Bayo Kuku arrived the venue of the event first, wearing black trousers and a white top. Shortly after he settled down and as the show kicked off, Funke Fowler, daughter of Lagos revenue boss, Mr. Tunde Fowler, also arrived alongside a couple of her friends. Upon arrival, Funke Fowler exchanged pleasantries with some people around and headed to her allocated seat which corresponded with her invitation card. Surprisingly, she sat very close to her estranged husband, Abi. Both didn’t get to notice each other until late in the night when Abi Kuku, who sat beside one of the P-Square brothers, Paul Okoye signaled to those around him of his intention to leave the hall. He looked around and behold his gaze and that of Funke’s met and instead of saying hello to each other, they concentrated on the models as they strutted on the runway.
Abi Kuku headed for the exit door, and disappeared into the night, while Funke remained in the hall till the end of the show.
The short scenario played out by the two was a surprise to those around. Many wondered why they couldn’t even exchange greetings. Until recently, Funke Fowler and Abi Kuku rarely attend events and even if they do only few people notice them. They are on the quiet side. But that was in the past. The two have now become a regular fixture at high profile events around Lagos.
Recently, Abi Kuku was at a birthday party staged by Toke Makinwa and her husband, Maje Ayida for Maje’s mother. Abi was there alongside Ladi Balogun, Shola Ojora and others.
The cause of friction between these two silver spoon kids are not known, even close friends labeled the development as irreconcilable differences. “They can’t just get on together.”
Funke Fowler walked out of the marriage two years after it was contracted. News has it that cracks started occurring in the marriage when Funke complained bitterly of abuse. It got to a stage that after series of failed reconciliation, Funke’s mother allegedly had to take her daughter out of the home during the festive period of 2013. What is, however, giving those close to them concern is the money spent on their wedding. It would be recalled that their wedding ceremonies held in two continents. The first was the traditional wedding which held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on Saturday, October 22, 2011. The event attracted a full list of nouveaux riche. The part two of the wedding was on November 19, 2011, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. And after the Dubai jamboree, the couple flew to Atlanta, Georgia, USA for their honeymoon.
Sources revealed that no sooner had the honeymoon ended than the two were faced with the reality of life, the foundation with which the marriage was built had started shaking. Abi and Funke, it was revealed, engaged in frequent quarrels.
Funke Fowler presently is concentrating on her trade. She operates a fashion retail outlet called Leila Fowler with branches scattered around Lagos.
