EVICTION FEAR GRASPS THE NEXT MOVIE STAR HOUSE…

Published

on

The race for the prestigious crown of the Next Movie Star 2016 edition ‘Super Charged’ is getting hotter following the eviction of six housemates from the Next Movie Star house.

In what will go on to be an eventful and most emotional period in the house, the wind of eviction that swept through the house left many of the remaining housemates dumbfounded.

First to be evicted from the house was 25 year Maria Attah who was voted out by her fellow housemates in a ballot after a task called the Knowing me knowing me Game. A twist was however added to the scenario as Igodo the Voice of the house exempted some from the whole eviction exercise who ironically was not in the good books of the other housemates.

After the whole voting exercise, Sophia Okorie, Victory Bamgbade, Moses Samuel  were put up for eviction.

Sophia was however evicted having amassed more votes from his fellow housemates. The display of emotions was evident as tears flowed freely from the other housemates in solidarity for the evicted colleague.

However the dust surrounding the eviction of Victory Bamgbade was yet to abate, when a few days later two other housemates were pardoned by Igodo the voice of the house to the surprise of many.

Veterans and industry experts have been visiting the house since the house mates entered the house.  They have taught topics ranging from Production Management to Art directing; Social Media Management to Public Relations; and from Screen writing to Stage Acting and dancing. One of them was Mr Kingsley james, who spoke to the housemates on the Attitude of a Star Actor, and how to make financial reward from the profession.

Tears flowed freely as the other housemates who survived the wind of eviction were left drooling in uncontrollable emotions after seeing their colleagues leave the house.

The evicted housemates will be hosted to a lavish eviction party at a location that will be disclosed later by the organizers amidst pomp and pageantry with family friends and well wishers expected to be present at the event.

The Next Movie STAR 2016 tagged ‘SUPER CHARGED’ which is the 12th  anniversary edition of the show is the only privately run reality show in the whole of Africa,  powered by Digital Interactive Media, and proudly supported by Coca Cola…..

MultiChoice Nigeria Loses 243,000 DStv, Gotv, Subscribers In Six Months Over Inflation, Price Hikes

Published

By

The South African pay-TV operator MultiChoice Group disclosed that its Nigerian unit, MultiChoice Nigeria, lost 243,000 subscribers on its Digital Satellite Television (DStv) and General Entertainment on Television (GOtv) services from April to September this year.

The company revealed these figures in its Interim Financial Results for the period ending 30 September 2024, which were released on Tuesday.

MultiChoice attributed this decline to Nigeria’s high inflation rate, which exceeds 30%, driven by the rising costs of food, electricity, and fuel, causing many customers to disconnect.

In its financial report for March 2024, MultiChoice had earlier reported an 18% subscriber loss in Nigeria.

The company further reported a 566,000-subscriber loss in the Rest of Africa operations over the past six months, with Zambia and Nigeria contributing the largest shares to this decline.

“With the Rest of Africa business having seen a decline of 803k subscribers in 2H FY24, this rate of decline slowed to 566k in 1H FY25,” stated MultiChoice.

The loss included 298,000 in Zambia and 243,000 in Nigeria, while other markets experienced a minor decline.

Extreme inflation and currency instability have negatively impacted the group’s profits, with MultiChoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela commenting, “We are making good progress in addressing the technical insolvency that resulted from non-cash accounting entries at the end of the last financial year.”

Mawela noted that the group’s net equity position is expected to recover by November.

With regard to Zambia’s losses, the company attributed them to extensive power outages caused by drought, leaving some regions with up to 23 hours of daily outages.

The company also cited competition from streaming services and changes in viewer preferences as pressures on its traditional pay-TV model.

To adapt, MultiChoice invested an additional ZAR1.6 billion in its streaming service Showmax, which reported 50% year-over-year growth.

Mawela added, “Showmax strategically positions the business to actively participate in the streaming revolution as it gains momentum across Africa.”

Legendary And Multifaceted Music Maestro, Quincy Jones, dies at 91

Quincy Jones, the legendary and multifaceted music producer known for his work with icons like Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles, passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

Surrounded by his family in his Bel Air home, the news of his death was confirmed by his publicist, Arnold Robinson, and reported by Yahoo and The Guardian on Monday.

Jones’ loved ones shared a heartfelt statement: “Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing.

“And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Renowned for his unmatched contribution to music, Quincy Jones’ career spanned more than 70 years, earning him an indelible place in history as one of the most awarded artists ever.

With 28 Grammy wins from 80 nominations, he stands as the third most-decorated Grammy winner, surpassed only by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who hold 88 nominations each, reports the Guardian.

Reflecting on his diverse musical journey, Jones once noted: “When people write about the music, jazz is in this box, R&B is in this box, pop is in this box, but we did everything.”

Jones’ influence extended beyond his accolades.

The legendary producer behind Michael Jackson’s top hits in 2017 won $9.4 million in damages from the late superstar’s estate over posthumous works.

A jury in Los Angeles sided with the 84-year-old producer but gave him only part of the $30 million he was seeking.

He famously produced Michael Jackson’s iconic albums Thriller, Off the Wall, and Bad, which reshaped the landscape of pop music.

His versatility was evident in his collaborations with artists across genres, including Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, George Benson, and Dizzy Gillespie. His legacy includes co-writing and producing the global charity single We Are The World, a song that brought together some of the greatest voices for humanitarian causes.

In addition, he was a successful composer of numerous film scores, bringing his musical touch to Hollywood classics.

Quincy’s talents transcended music alone; he founded his own TV and film production company in 1990, achieving notable success with beloved projects like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Color Purple.

His entrepreneurial spirit continued with the launch of Qwest TV in 2017, an on-demand music streaming service that showcased his enduring dedication to the art form.

Born in Chicago in 1933, Jones’ early years were marked by resilience and discovery. After his parents’ separation, he moved to Washington state with his father, where he began exploring his musical talents.

By 14, he was playing in a band with a young Ray Charles, even once backing the legendary Billie Holiday. His path led him to New York after studying music in university, where he performed with jazz band leader Lionel Hampton and played trumpet for Elvis Presley’s first television appearances.

Jones’ career took a defining turn when he became a producer and arranger at Mercury Records, also beginning his work in film scoring. Notably, he was the first African American to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song with The Eyes of Love from Banning in 1968, the first of his seven nominations.

Quincy Jones lifetime
Despite his towering success, Quincy’s life was not without its perils. He narrowly escaped death during the infamous 1969 Manson family murders, having forgotten an engagement at Sharon Tate’s house that night. He also survived a brain aneurysm in 1974, a testament to his resilience.

Yahoo reported that Jones’ personal life was as storied as his career. Married three times, he first wed his high school sweetheart, Jeri Caldwell, in a union that lasted nine years and brought forth their daughter Jolie. His second marriage to Ulla Andersson produced two children, Quincy Jr. and Martina, before ending in 1974. That same year, he married actress Peggy Lipton, with whom he had daughters Rashida and Kidada; the couple separated in 1989. Jones also fathered daughter Rachel with Carol Reynolds and had another daughter, Kenya, with actress Nastassja Kinski.

The Guardian described Jones as “widely and wildly talented,” a true industry titan whose influence spanned generations and genres. His family’s statement echoes the sentiment of millions: “We celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

In an era where music boundaries were sharply defined, Quincy Jones stood as a beacon of boundless creativity and collaboration. His legacy is an enduring reminder of the power of music to bridge divides and inspire greatness.
