Nigeria’s Minister of Communication Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has ordered the immediate suspension of the controversial Unstructured Supplementary Service Data USSD charges on customers who use them.
According to the minister, he says, ”After receiving a briefing about the proposed USSD charges, I realized there was no justification for the new tariff”.
”Consequently, I directed its immediate suspension, any telecom operator that violates this directive would be sanctioned appropriately”, he added.
This directive comes days after the minister ordered the full details of the proposed changes by the communication networks. The minister on Sunday stated that his office had not been briefed about these changes, hence, ordered its suspension pending formal notice was passed to his office.
