N177m Fraud: Professor Benjamin Ogunmodede, Two Others Jailed 40 Years..

A FEDERAL High Court sitting in Ibadan sentenced former Executive Director of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (I.A.R.T), Professor Benjamin Ogunmodede and two others to 40 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

 

Two others are; Zackous Tejumola and Adenekan Clement.

 

Ogunmodede, a Professor of agriculture, is also a Reverend of the Anglican Church, while  Tejumade and Adenekan were chief accountant and staff of the agricultural research  institute respectively.

 

They were charged on 16-count charge which bordered on conspiracy, unlawful conversion, and stealing of school subvention and other charges since 2011.

 

Justice Ayo Emmanuel sentenced the accused persons to four years jail term for each of the offences they were found guilty, running to forty years, which the court said will run concurrently.

Naomi’s sister provides update on arrest, cites health concerns

Simi Oluwaseyi, sister of Naomi, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, has provided the latest update about her sister’s arrest, citing health concerns.

Society Reporters recalls that Naomi was arrested in connection with a tragic stampede in Ibadan that resulted in the loss of 35 lives.

In a series of Instagram posts, Similoluwa extended condolences to the parents of the deceased children, while also voicing concerns about her sister’s health.

She revealed that on the third day of her sister’s detention, her sister collapsed during interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and was rushed to the hospital.

Furthermore, Similoluwa revealed that before Naomi was arraigned in court, a doctor confirmed that her blood pressure (BP) was too high, adding that she had no access to her phone or family.

Part of her post reads, “I deeply sympathize with the families of the children who lost their lives. My sister was arrested and detained for over six days, collapsing on the third day of interrogation by the DSS and being rushed to the hospital”.

JUST IN: Fire guts FIIRO office in Lagos

The Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), office in Oshodi, Lagos, near Cappa Bus Stop has been gutted by fire.

The Nation gathered that men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority are currently on the ground to contain the incident.

Although no casualties have been reported so far, the fire has reportedly destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Efforts are underway to prevent the flames from spreading to adjoining offices and buildings.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of filing this report.
