The Oyo State House of Assembly has announced the suspension of Olusola Oluokun, Chairman of Oyo East Local Government after he publicly pledged his allegiance to Governor Seyi Makinde’s political ally, Senator Monsurat Aduke Sunmonu.

His suspension was pronounced on Thursday after the presentation of a Matter of Urgent Public Importance titled “Urgent Call For Full Investigation into the indecent attitude of the Chairman, Oyo East Local Government, Mr. Olusola Oluokun in a viral video online.”

Oluokun’s actions in the video were deemed unbecoming of an elected Local Government Chairman.

The House has therefore set up a committee to investigate the matter, pending which the Vice Chairman will act as Chairman.

The suspended council chairman, in a viral video, had thanked Senator Monsurat for her support in making him the local government chairman.

In the video, Oluokun was seen partially unclothed, eating while praising Aduke Sunmonu and cursing her enemies.

A source had informed us that Aduke Sunmonu allegedly served as a “godmother” to the Oyo State Governor Makinde.

The source had stated, “This is one of the reasons public officials don’t serve public interests, but rather the interests of themselves and those who put them in positions against popular wishes.”

The video had showed Oluokun eating half-naked and praising a political stalwart who helped him become chairman.

Oluokun said, “Who doesn’t know Aduke? Which lunatics don’t know Aduke? Anyone who doesn’t know Aduke will never truly know anyone until they depart this world.”

He continued, “Aduke, my helper, my benefactor. She appointed me as local government chairman and brought me abroad. If the world still exists and God is still on His throne, she will never witness sorrow in her life.”

“I’m grateful; my entire family is thankful to you. Love you, big mummy, love you deeply. I remain loyal till my last breath,” he said.

“Who among the foolish does not know Aduke? Who among the unfortunate does not know Aduke? They will soon realise,” he proclaimed.

“Aduke has done a great work, a good woman to the core, a true motherly figure. I’ve never seen this kind of motherhood in my life; nothing will harm your soul,” he added.

“You will continue to prosper; you and your children will never experience setbacks. They have already excelled and will continue to meet helpers until the end of time.”

“My Creator will indeed bless you for what you have done for me because I don’t know what else to say,” he added.

N585million Fraud: EFCC Concludes Probe Of Suspended Minister Betta Edu, Says Report Now With Tinubu

Published

By

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has noted that it has presented findings from its investigation of former Minister of Humanitarian Resources, Betta Edu to President Bola Tinubu.

The EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwajaren, disclosed this while stating the achievements of the commission under current chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

While speaking on Betta Edu, Uwajaren said, “I don’t know the outcome. But I believe that we have submitted a preliminary report to the president. And I believe that we are still on the matter.”

Betta Edu was suspended after being alleged of transferring N585million meant for vulnerable groups into private bank accounts.

This is even as the commission said it was investigating some bank officials for various offences.

According to the anti-graft agency, about five bank executives are serving various jail terms at the custodial centres in the country.

The EFCC however failed to mention names of the bank executives under probe, even as it noted that the banking sector has not been overlooked in the last year.

He said, “It’s just for us to look back and realize that EFCC has never shifted focus from any sector. Between 2009 and 2011, at least five bank executives were investigated and served their jail terms. There are still some that are under investigation.”

“They are not politicians. Bank MDs are not immune to investigations or prosecution by the EFCC. We cannot mention names until those things are concluded. “

“The last time I checked, we mentioned the number of bank accounts that we were monitoring. We were looking at about 140 accounts. And we know it takes time to look into and get the required information.”

On the investigation of controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky’s allegations, Uwujaren said Bobrisky could face a fresh charge from the commission if the allegations against the EFCC are false.

Bobrisky had in a voice note shared by controversial social critic Martins Otse, who is also refered to VeryDarkMan, said he bribed EFCC officers with N15m to drop money laundering charges against him.

Although the EFCC denied the allegations, it set up a committee to investigate the matter.

Providing an update, Uwujaren stated that one could be charged for giving false information to the EFCC, let alone making false allegations against the commission.

“There is a portion of the EFCC Act that states if you give false information, you can be tried, but in his case, it is an allegation against the agency. I don’t want to preempt the panel investigating the matter. Once we are through with the investigation, we will definitely brief you on the outcome,” Wilson noted.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday called on the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace to stop the issuance of airstrip licences to private individuals and organisations while calling for the withdrawal of already approved ones granted to Living Faith Church and private individuals and organizations, to safeguard national security.

This followed the adoption of an urgent motion titled “Need to stop issuance of airstrip licence to private individuals and organizations in the country” by Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi during plenary in Abuja.

Moving the motion, Gumi noted that the Federal Government through the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the approval of an airstrip for Living Faith Church situated on Canaanland in Ota, Ogun State.

He also explained that on Sunday, 6th October 2024, the Founder of Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo during the Tehillah Night Special edition at Covenant University Chapel, Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State informed his congregation of the approval of an airstrip granted by the Federal Government to his Church.

Recall that in September 2014, a prominent religious leader was linked with a private jet used to convey $9.3m in cash to South Africa for the purchase of arms. The private jet which was seized by the South African authorities had two Nigerians and an Israeli on board, (Sahara Reporters, 16th September 2014);

The country currently experiences security challenges through illegal importation/proliferation of firearms and ammunition, importation of illicit/hard drugs, coupled with the inability of our security agencies to pinpoint the source of supply of weapons to insurgents, kidnappers and separatists that have massacred thousands of Nigerians across the country;

“Granting airstrip to private individuals and organizations will aid illegal importation of firearms and hard drugs into the country, thus heightening insurgency, kidnapping, banditry and other vices that are seriously affecting the socio-economic development of the country.

The House however urged the Committees on Aviation and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.
