It’s the Native and Vogue Port Harcourt International Fashion Week 2014, a groundbreaking event holding in Port Harcourt that showcased works from local and international designers with extensive and outstanding media coverage!
This season, I had the chance to hop on a red eye flight toPortharcourt from Lagos on the first day of The Native & Vogue International Fashion Week to cover the colorful, quirky, up-and-coming fashion scene in the Rivers State capital. From ‘90s raver-inspired models posing in underground graffiti-adorned tunnels to hunting for vintage collectables at the prestigious Hotel Presidential, New GRA, Portharcourt proved to be an incredibly inspiring backdrop for the spring 2015 collections. Getting to meet fashion icon Frank Osodi—and help style hair backstage at his show—was a fantastic experience. Here are the highlights of my action-packed Day 1 journey to Native and Vogue International Fashion Week Portharcourt, which will wrap up on Sunday, September 21.
On Friday 19th September 2014, the second edition of the Native and Vogue International Fashion Week, kicked off at the Hotel Presidential, New GRA, Portharcourt, Rivers State with an Opening Cocktail party, and a massive blue carpet.
At the fashion soiree, which saw in attendance some of the biggest names in the Nigerian fashion and entertainment industry, and International Designers in attendance.

The High point of the day 1 of the event was the appearance of the Rivers state governor, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi, who strolled into the venue with glitz and glamour appearing in a stripe blue suit with a black shirt, he was looking very fashionable accompanied by his Commissioner for information the organizers of the event, Mrs Ibim Seminetari.
Opening the event proper was the compere of this years native and Vogue, and they are our very own Uti Nwachukwu and Nollywood sweetheart, Kate Henshaw Nuttal. They both look very radiant and stylish in their garments, while they welcomed everyone to the native and vogue 2014 and also giving an highlight of this year’s event and what should be expected.
The event proper started with a showcasing of a very creative designer, Like Amos Ejiro, Zizi Cardow, Dumebi Oshekemba, Jonhson Johnson among others.
One of the high point of the event was the light comedy dished out by one of Portharcourts very best comedian, Daniel D Humorous who got the crowd including the governor laughing out their stress.
To wrap up the day 1 event, was a special performance by young and dynamic CHIDINMA who titillated the crowd with her special numbers like Kedike, Oh Baby and the crowd kept screaming for more more more till the event was brought to an end.
