Nigerian/Canadian actor and filmmaker, Pascal Atuma, despite being based in Toronto is one of the many Nigerians in the diaspora who have lent their voice to the plight of the Nigerian youth.
As protests rage all over the country, Mr. Atuma is using his social media platform to speak directly to the Nigerian president; President Muhammadu Buhari, who is still yet to acknowledge the Nigerian youths in any way.
In his post, Mr. Atuma acknowledged what little effort the president has made during his almost six years in government while admonishing him to heed to the demands of the people, as this could be a major boost to his otherwise meager achievements as president of Nigeria.
In his words, the Canada-based filmmaker asked the president to use the END SARS campaign as a “starting point to all the great things he could achieve.” Adding that he “shouldn’t complete his remaining two years and leave Nigeria the way Mugabe left Zimbabwe”.
He went further to state that this could be the president’s legacy and posterity could remember him as the president who listened to his people and put an end to the brutal extra-judicial killings of young Nigerians by members of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), as well as the president who brought about much-needed improvements in Nigeria; from the system of government, to increase in the salaries of teachers, building and maintaining of infrastructure, better electricity, prosecution of corrupt officials and so much more.
He concluded by commending the efforts of Nigerian celebrities who have been active supporters of the movement both on social media and especially does who took to the streets, adding that we would not stop until we get the change we deserve.
