NNPC leadership Academy Teachers in Warri today staged another peaceful protest over the non-payment of their ten monthly salary.
The protesting teachers first stormed the School premises inside NNPC Housing Complex, Ekpan, Warri in Delta in the morning with placards demanding the payment of their salary.
Work at the premises was temporarily disrupted today following the protests as officials attempted to calm the teachers
The protesters accused the NNPC leadership of corruption and embezzlement of teachers’ funds.
The aggrieved teachers appealed to the State government, HC for oil and Gas, and the traditional ruler, Ovie of Uvwie to intervene in their situation.
Speaking with newsmen, the leader of the protesting teachers, said “due to selfishness or carelessness of some people we have not been paid since January 2020 till date.
“We have written a lot of letters to GGM, Isa lapai through the different medium but all that will get is just vague promises Al the times but nothing has been done about our salary.’’
The effort to get the reaction of the GGM , Isa lapai through telephone in Abuja, was abortive as his mobile number was not available.
Reacting to the development, the NNPC Leadership Academy Contractor said he met with the management in Abuja and told them of the development but he was surprised that the management was asking him to pay his contract staff without paying him , and the last one he did he went to borrow from the bank which till now he is still servicing the loan. He commended the protesters for their efforts and also advise them to take the protest to Delta State House of Assembly
